Heading off to work today suffering I was from intractable Monday blues. Maybe it was the fine August weather that screamed holiday, maybe it’s because schools are out on holiday. I loathed my career choice, wishing to be a teacher, to get enjoy the school breaks with the kiddies. So intense was the feeling that for an untempth time, like many an adult, I wished to be kid once again
.
People, I got my wish. Cazorla is in and it feels like Christmas when I still believed in Santa Claus.
Early morning surfing on the phone, Cazorla Santi was still a ghost deal. The evidence was everywhere: footprints in the mud, rearranged furniture, eerie sounds but no sight of the form responsible. Inside, it felt as a kid, like that unsettling wait for the holidays when daddy would take you camping. Like an orgasm that wouldn’t burst into fireworks.
The dress up to today’s unveiling of Santi Cazorla, in an Arsenal shirt, at Colney before the trip to Germany for preseason training had been more elaborate than any screen buster I know. This blog had Santi Cazorla profile, the next had a description of his attributes as a player that prophetically sounded verbatim to what Wenger spoke a few hours ago of the Spaniard; that blog went on to elucidate on what it meant for Arsenal to seal the deal for the former Villareal and Malaga maestro in such glowing terms as ‘coup’, ‘fine business’ and ‘shrewd’.
Simply put, as is the norm in the 21st century with social and other forms of new media, you get to know a guy without ever meeting them more so, even more intensely than if you ever would. Arsenal fans thanks to the sea of pundits online, knew where he would play; how Santi will play.
In our minds and dreams we have seen him make the premiership forget the art of Mata, Silva and Modric and marvel at his wizardry. Hell, why wouldn’t they after all by signing Cazorla we Arsenal fans finally get over Fabregas. Say what, Van persie can be old news as well. I tell you the excitement in gooner nation beats that at NASA on the landing of curiosity on Mars.
With the arrival of Podolski, Oliver and now Cazorla, summer off season has been better than summer holidays for many Arsenal supporters. Tonight especially, there are going to be many happy girlfriends, wives and vise versa as the good vibes flow on. If a guy gives you way in traffic today, 9/10 that is an Arsenal fan.
In the event you are wondering about the title. Arsenal official site is running a competition where supporters win ‘I was there t-shirt’ only that the t-shirt in this case is a signed home Arsenal jersey with Santi Cazorla’s signature. All you have to do is tweet with the tag #WelcomeCazorla. To say that in Swahili is #KaribuCazorla.
Let the games begin.
