First three points. Second set of three scored away from home. 100 London derby wins. For all of Abromovich's money, for all sputs hating, throw in the Fulhams and West Hams, Arsenal have won the most of the capital's run ins. Meaningless stat? Just like 4th place, it's no trophy, but as my grandmother would quip, marriages are not made of wedding rings.
At Craven cottage, Fulham 1 3 Arsenal. The statistics from the season last were the apt preview to the early KO between the two London clubs: Arsena conceeded 31 times from counter attacks, Fulham were second on the log with 29!
Aston Villa had served a reminder the weeked before, for all the fashionable Wenger bashing, it is the Frenchman's team that responded best to its vulnerability from counter attacks. Two of the three goals were as a result of shrewd transition from defence to attack: Talk of being as strong as your weakest link. Talk of application of the principles of the art of war.
What I found most impressive today was our shape when defending. No last ditch defending, even fewer interceptions or 'big tackles'. Just the application of shape. Rosicky and Cazorla dropping in, Walcott tucking in and Podolski alternating between that and forming part of the banker ahead of the midfeild trio alongside Giroud doing 'polite' pressing of the ball.
The patient, albeit at times hair rising, tap about of the ball at the back to relieve pressure once possesion was regained. Did you notice how well Per used the ball? Two of the three attacks that led to goals stemed from a Per foward ball to a midfeilder in space. Granted, Fulham didn't press enough, but the confidence was assuring given the makeshift nature of the defence and the absence of the destroyer DMF that everyone is waxing lyrical about.

Sanogo made his EPL debut and looks quite a ram who enjoys the.physical part of the game. I understand why Wenger places such a premium on the young lad. Combined with the look of him at the under 20 worldcup, football wise, he looks like the illegitimate child of Kanu and Adebayor: All the akwardness of a tall skilled brother.

Fenerbache up next on Tuesday. The boss in his presser insists he won't rest nobody. Understandable, but could mean two things: Having come early in the season,the Spurs game that comes four days thereafter doesn't hold much weight. Infact, going by the last couple of seasons, a game against Spurs--whatever the outcome--seems to ignite some fire into the belly. Secondly, there is chance for major reinforcement before Spurs (as confirmed by Wenger in the post match presser)Reinforcements of requisite quality to walk into the team if need be.
